Hello Arnold-fans,
I'm Lindsey, a Communications Studies major at the University of
Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I'm currently in this master's seminar:
Entertaining the Citizen, which studies the effects the integration of
entertainment with political communication, and the way this affects
the involvement of citizens in democracies nowadays. For this seminar
I have to write a 15-page paper, and I have chosen it to be about the
role Arnold Schwarzenegger's celebrity persona plays in conveying his
image of a serious and succesfull politician. I was wondering what
your thoughts on the following subjects are..
- What constructs Arnold's appeal as a politician?
- In which ways does Arnold's image as a serious politician and a
(former) entertainer intertwine?
- How does he integrate his famous background into the concept of a
politician?
- What would make Arnold more or less politically competent than other
politicians?
- Why would Arnold be a good leader? Would he be a good president?
- Do you think Arnold gets a different treatment in the massmedia than
other politicians? Is this a good or a bad thing?
Any comments on these questions would be welcome. Thanks!
- Lindsey
