 Of course. But this just gets to my original point, which is why did he 
land on that particular lie to send John to the fallout shelter, rather 
than just tell them that it's unstoppable?

 Well, John actually said, "Skynet is the virus," but I'm perfectly 
willing to accept that he was speaking metaphorically. It doesn't really 
change anything.
