Well, he was shot at the time. That could affect
your thought processes. <g> But I'm thinking that,
perhaps, he wanted both John and his daughter to
make haste. Every minute counted in getting them to
safety. Had dad said, "you can't shut it down, go
there to live." he may have had to argue with them
over that fact.

"WHAT WE CAN'T SHUT IT DOWN? THAT CAN'T BE TRUE!!!"
By that time the TX may have been on them or the
nukes may have dropped. Regardless, the father's lie
setup a nice surprise. Convenient, yes, but I'm okay
with this one. 

The one point brought up elsewhere in this ng was
that plot hole where Reese says nothing dead can go
through, hence the "covered with human skin" or
tissue part is necessary. Maybe the initial jump
through time had the TX covered in human flesh which
was, immediately upon successful time transfer,
replaced by the "mimetic alloy" (wrong?). Meh.

Not much of  spoiler, but...

It was an okay movie. Gotta love Arnold. Those funky
star gl*****, "talk to the hand", and the combat
sequences. Rockin'.
