It does not matter what genre Pern and others comes under as long as the
reader / viewer enjoys it. You'll all have to agree to not agree on this
hairy topic. I love all Fantasy / Sci fi books and movies and do not care
about the percentages of fantasy or sci fi. This is my opinion only, and
hope not to upset anyone.
