The issue of quality only enters into the equation if the network is
trying to reach a demographic which values quality in the first place.
MTV targets the slacker/stoner/couch potato demo, churning out hours
of crap programming, and selling millions of dollars of ads to snack
food and energy drink manufacturers.

The flip side would be something like the Discovery Channel's "Planet
Earth" series last year, fascinating and beautifully produced.
