Yes they know and they don't care ....and they most likely don't have
kids who watch the crap they produce or they would possibly develop a
conscience over it.  The state of television programming is sinking
lower and lower.  Most shows seem to be about dark subjects, murder
and such. Most commercials are about drugs we can take.   There are
more beeps than words.  Family life is not ****trayed as happy and
harmonious, they're cynical and disrespectful.  So this is what people
watch and consequently this is what we've deposited into our brains to
think about..  Garbage in, garbage out.  What did we watch when we
were kids?  Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver.
So because of THAT, we grew up with subconscious unrealistic
expectations about family life and the divorce rate is 50%.

In other words, I wonder what kind of character our country would
display if there were NO television.  John Lennon could have written a
song about it.  Imagine no television...I wonder if you can.  The
"greatest generation" grew up with no television shows  they couldn't
miss.  They were actually living life and interacting with real
people.   In Europe people's  lives don't revolve around television
shows.  My husband embraces the tv - we have one in practically every
room.  He can't fall asleep without it on.   I don't know, I think
there's something wrong with that.  We're addicted to the Idiot Box.
Thank you for letting me vent - I'm really starting to sound like a
cranky old lady.  But I'm right :)
