Oh, I know that Johnny, (as his first wife Mileva nicknamed him) was a
handsome devil when he was young, but he really was faithful to her
until their relation****p turned ugly because she was relegated to
household duties and kept out of science, her original passion.
He was prettier than she was. The real villain in the love story was
his first cousin Elsa Lowenthal, who set her cap for him two years
before she finally broke up a stressed marriage, and the Einsteins
divorced unhappily, both suffering nervous breakdowns in the process.
Elsa nursed him back to health, and so they married. He insisted on
not bru****ng his teeth or hair during their marriage, as well wanting
the right to date. Remind you of anyone? "He dressed up for his first
wife, but not for me," Elsa once commented. Poor Elsa, the predator.
Einstein was loved by Mileva, but she wasn't a match for a woman who
could accept all his absences while he fulfilled his destiny as a
famous physicist. She reveled in his reflected glory. Mileva Maric-
Einstein was a genius in her own right, and very overlooked until
recently. I only know this because I have a very smart friend who
reads a lot about Einstein. He didn't start being a lady-killer until
he married Elsa.
