I know what you mean though I do feel he redeemed the filmic role at least

to some extent in OOTP.  The question for me was were his previous poor 
performances the result of poor acting or poor direction?

To be frank I never really found her character plausable in either the
books 
or the movies, I didn't feel someone that unstable would have been able to

survive and rise so high as a Death Eater.
