I can't see any teenage boy 'staying down' in a fight in the hopes that
a girl will fall for him if she finds his plight pathetic enough --
particularly not one whose enemies have already nicknamed him
'Snivellus'. (So far as I can remember, this was a completely gratuitous
coinage by James -- young Severus is not known for snivelling under any
cir***stances.)
If he wants to look good in the girl's eyes, the last thing he is going
to welcome is being rescued by her -- wangling a hurt/comfort scenario
for a proud or prickly character is strictly for the fangirls ;-p
Although of course Draco Malfoy did play precisely the 'snivelling' card
when Buckbeak bit him...
