Okay, I've been doing a lot of thinking about this Half Blood Prince issue
and have come up with my own wacky theory, let me know what you think of
this.
Clearly JKR has stated on her site that the HBP is neither Harry nor
VOLDEMORT, what if it, in fact simply refers to Tom Riddle (in his
pre-Voldemort state)?
The "prince" could simply be a play on words indicating the lesser of the
two evils (Tom/Voldemort) with Voldemort being the LORD and Riddle being
the
PRINCE.
I've pasted something I had posted after reading OOTP about a year ago:
<<Perhaps that is what Dumbledore was attempting to find out when he used
that instrument in his office the night Harry saw Arthur injured.
OOTP: Scholastic Chapter 22 "St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and
Injuries" Page 470
[.A serpent's head grew out of the end of it, opening its mouth wide.
Harry
wondered whether the instrument was confirming his story: He looked
eagerly
at Dumbledore for a sign that he was right, but Dumbldore did not look up.
"Naturally, naturally," murmured Dumbledore apparently to himself, still
observing the stream of smoke without the slightest sign of surprise. "But
in essence divided?"]
Initially, I just assumed he was attempting to see if Voldemort & Harry
were
connected, but maybe he wanted to see if, in fact, Voldemort was still
"divided" into 2 distinct entities: Voldemort & Tom Riddle.
Once the smoke s**** split, he knew they were in fact 2 separate "beings"
(for lack of a better word) and that is why Dumbledore felt inclined to
call
him "Tom" during the MOM battle.>>
We know that the reason that Harry stays with his Aunt and Uncle is
because
of the blood protection instituted by his mother upon Voldemort's attack
in
Godric's Hollow and that Dumbledore seemed curiously interested in the
fact
that Harry's blood was used in Voldemort's revival in the graveyard.
Harry's charmed blood may in fact be "preserving" a bit of the Tom Riddle
that is left in Voldemort, thus ensuring that Voldemort doesn't entirely
take over and giving Harry some sort of leverage he will need to defeat
him.
