I just stumbled across the whole EG phenomenom tonight. (11/15/4)
I graduated from Mel Hi in 1989, and I had him (Emmett Gulley) in a (non
academic) class... home ec. or driver's ed or something. We kinda felt bad
for him, I remember, wearing his Garanimals and his children's shoes. Even
then, he seemed to be somewhat deranged, low IQ, poor social skills. I
think I remember hearing that he was raised by elderly grandparents or
that his parents were pretty old to have a kid in H.S. It's mean to say
so, because he probably couldn't help it, but he looked like a deranged
muppet reject with the mange. Needed a shower, for sure.
The only thing I remember him ever saying to me was something about him
going to get his hair "styled" - like, vs. getting a normal haircut. I'm
not exactly sure what he meant... Fabio-like blonde tresses, the surfer
"wedge/bowl" cut that was popular at the time? Anyway, he had grand plans
for his coiffure, and he seemed very proud of that. I see that didn't work
out for him. Pity.
I never would have guessed that he'd turn out to be such a sociopath.
Menial job and mumbling to himself, sure, but threatening children?
