Rather to my own surprise, I've found myself revisiting MLAR of late. For
an album that I have very vocally detested I'm astonished. It's packed
with
gems I'd overlooked.
The songs I'd always liked still stand up and seem to have improved with
age - Summer, Grown Up, Georgie, Candy and Unexpected No4
However a few I couldn't stand have jumped out at me, especially Harpies
Bizarre, Dumb and Invasion Hit Parade, even Sweet Pear has improved
(although the intro still sounds too much like the Beatles' Don't Let Me
Down for comfort).
I think, with hindsight, I rejected the album as I'm not fond of coarse
language (it took me years to see past the f word on Suit of Lights as
well)
and I loathed Sweet Pear, Doomsday and Broken - so that was the start of
the
album and the end of the album ruined.
Mind you, I still hate Broken.... Tuneless dirge!
