Elton John is an artist that some love to mock thesse days but I think
in the fullness of time, his music will be recognised as amongst the
finest crafted pop there has been.  Elton's melodies and his
showman****p added to Bernie Taupin's at times brilliant lyric writing
produced a string of great hit singles and some highly regarded
albums.  However, how much of his output is genuine "ROCK" and how
much is simply high-quality "POP" is up for debate.  Not that I think
Sir Elton will be bothered.

The Moodies I believe were a creative band who played around with
orchestral elements or textures (the mellotron) and crafted some great
melodies but lacked the lyrical depth of Bernie's work.  That's not to
say that they were lyrically poor but just that that wasn't their
forte.

One connection: they've both given their talents to movies.
