Well, I've always interpreted it as this:
The Belgariad is the story of Belgarion becoming who hw is destined to
be.
The Mallorean is an adventure romping all the way across Mallorea.
Perhaps it's lost something in the translation, but based on the names
of his other series (Elenium & Tamuli in particular) it looks like a
reasonable guess.
