I don't think I'd be able to point out a single favourite, so I'll
have to be a bit expansive:

I actually think that the 'best' book (of those that I've read) is
/The Redemption/ -- while long, it manages to contain the plot in a
tighter narrative style than the longer series (which don't have more
plot -- only more filling). If I try to ignore the re-use, which is
horribly jarring at times, I actually think they made better use of
these plot elements in that book, than in any of it's fantasy
predecessors.

However, I probably most enjoy rereading the Belgariad -- for no
other reason than that it was my introduction to Eddings.

> 2. Which Non-Eddings book would you recommend, and why?

My all-time favourite is LotR, but possibly I should recommend
something that isn't as well known. Perhaps something from my all-
time favourite children's author, Astrid Lindgren. I can't decide
between /The Brothers Lionheart/ and /Ronia, the Robber's Daughter/,
so either you accept both, or just toss a coin ;-) (both are, IMO,
superior to /The Hobbit/ and far superior to e.g. the Potter books).

> 3. What do you want for christmas but probably won't be getting?

Books, mostly ;-)

There's a few Danish books that I'd like to have, but which probably
won't make it to the tree.

And then there's all the stuff that I _certainly_ won't be getting
(from a complete renovation of the house and downwards), but let's
not go there ;-)

The newsgroups will persist, though the trend in the mix of people
will continue. Usenet will increasingly be the domain of a mix of
elitists, cranks, trolls and spammers -- the majority of the social
networking on the 'net will be handled by http in the foreseeable
future (though I think that other protocols will take over --
protocols that will allow social networking to be done in a virtual
3D world in a manner akin to that of World of Warcraft).

> 5. Describe the plot of Harry Potter 8 in a short synopsis.

.. . .

Basically I disagree with your basic premise that there will be any
plot.

Harry Potter 8, the book that will actually get published, will be
encyclopedic and without any attempt at a plot. It will show the
scope of Rowling's sub-creation, but will also emphasize her problems
with consistency (a problem that exist in almost all aspects of her
writing -- sub-creation, plot, characterization, language, etc.).

However, if we imagine an eighth book of actual narrative, then we
will get some kind of 'Next Generation' thing, where we follow the
exploits of the new generation of little Potters, Weasleys and
Malfoys at Hogwarts, where they will manage to find the final clues
to the Dark Magic case that Harry has been working on for a long
time. The story will ****ft back and forth between Harry's work in the
Auror department and the kids at Hogwarts, and in the end the kids
will find the magic thingmagic that will either allow Harry to find
and beat the baddie, or the kids will accidentally 'kill' his horcrux
or something like that.

    Why do bad writers
         win the fight?
    Why do good writers
         die in need?
    Because the writers
         who can't write
    are read by the readers
         who can't read.
