One of the ideas about the Accident was that it put the Universe in a
holding pattern. This the Eddings' shamefaced apology for writing the
Belgariad again, a handwave to explain all the repetitions - they're
plot points! Later he would lose all shame and just ask, bare faced,
"What of it?" gut back then he put in a nominal effort.
Anyway, the Universe was on hold. So, among other things, Polgara didn't
get to have any kids of her own because she was put to work by the Light
looking after the Rivan Whiners - hey, that could be the name of their
team in the Football Alornia Cup - and after the Universe got back on
track she was the last person whose life got to resume its course.
