Ok, did no-one at all read these manuscripts before they were
published?
I know that Leigh died recently, but I really get the feeling that
actually these were written more by her than David. I just can't
believe that someone who wrote the Belgariad/Mallorean/Elenium would
just completely loose the ability to write a coherent story.
I'm perserving through the Dreamers and I'm finally on the last book
and while bad writing does annoy me it's actually glaring continuity
errors that really get me worked up - like the fact that the same ****p
(The Victory) is apparently taking the Viking-Like warriors to Temple
Town at the same time as it's taking the Roman-Like soldiers to the
main invasion route of the Vlagh.
It's frustrating cos I think, underneath it all, there actually is an
originally story trying to get out (there's no all-powerful-glowing-
orbs in this one for starters, oh hang on, there are but they're not
really that im****tant and they've not been mentioned since the 1st
book).
If someone attacked it with a good pair of scissors, cut out most of
the sarcasm from the characters and all the 'be-nices', wry smiles,
grinning foolishly and all the rest of the overwhelming banter between
them and let them be serious once in a while, and the baby talk (the
bad guys being called 'Bug Men' for example - make it sound more
intelligent and call them something like Vlaghites or Vlaghlings - at
least it shows slightly more creativity) then you might have ended up
with a story which I wont feel was a waste of time reading...
