Non Fantasy Writings

I don't know if this is a topic that has been overdone or not - I've
been an occasional lurker here for years but not seen it, so apologies
if it's been done to death.

Anyway the question is, aside from all the usual SF/Fantasy favourites,
who else do you like?

Ian Rankin
Ian Banks - I know, it's 50/50 SF and other stuff.
Alexei Sayle - a recent find but surprisingly good.
Zane Radcliffe
George Macdonald Fraser - a must-read for everyone in my opinion.
