> 1.What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Still thinking.... extracted deoxynivalenol and nivalenol from maize
cultures?
Oh, I dug my own bath at Hot Water Beach and went sea kayacking at
Cathedral Cove in New Zealand.
> 2.Did you make any New Years' resolutions?
Not really. I did think of one the other day, but I've forgotten what it
was.
> 3.Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
> 4.Did anyone close to you die?
A good friend's mother. I wasn't close to the mother, but I am to my
friend.
> 5.What countries did you visit?
New Zealand.
> 6.What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A completed first draft PhD thesis.
> 7.What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Hmmm, can't think of anything in particular.
> 8.What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting through it.
> 9.What was your biggest failure?
I refuse to acknowledge failure- I prefer to consider myself "not yet
competent" at whatever I didn't achieve ;-)
> 10.Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing apart from the usual coughs and sniffles. And far too many
tension headaches.
> 11.What was the best thing you bought?
Probably my new Palm T|X
> 12.Whose behaviour merited celebration?
My 7 y.o.nephew Kyle- he really improved this year
> 13.Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
It's either George Bush or John Howard- politicians, both.
> 14.Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage
> 15.What events did you get really, really, really excited about?
The new series of Dr Who.
> 16.What song will always remind you of 2005?
Hmm, none really.
> 17.Compared to this time last year, are you:
> i.happier or sadder?
> ii.thinner or fatter?
> iii.richer or poorer?
Probably about the same, although I may be marginally richer. This is a
tem****ary state of affairs.
> 18.What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise, and paying attention to a very close friend.
> 19.What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastination
> 20.How did you spend Christmas?
With a group of great friends at our house- traditional meal, which I
prepared, then watched some Dr Who, played some Save Dr Lucky and ate
lots more, in the comfort of the AC. Christmas Day was a stinker.

Dale
> 22.Did you fall in love in 2005?
No.

Dr Who. No contest.

I read quite a few good books, but none that stand out.

512meg SD card and Missy Higgins CD... and a new Palm, an MP3 player
(bought these myself, though) and a new wa****ng machine.
> 29. What did you want and not get?
A wireless router... but it's ont he way.
> 30. What were your favorite films of this year?
The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe- although it didn't really meet my
expectations.
> 31.What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I can't remember... but I was 37
I think we went to dinner... and I had a belated birthday party. My
friends messed with my mind and I ended up buying my own birthday
present.

Hmm, postgrad laboratory budget

I don't think I am.....
> 35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most/least?
Christopher Eccleston- he was brilliant
> 36. What political issue stirred you the most?
It's a huge toss up. The London bombings worried me enormously, but I was
moved by the wonderful sup****tive effoet of the British people. I
compared that with the horrific response to Cyclone Katrina and
despaired.
Other than that, probably the new IR legislation which was bulldozed
through parliament by an arrogant Australian federal government.
> 37. Whom did you miss?
Probably Daley.
> 38. Who was the best new person you met?
My lab partner Madeleine. I didn't meet many new people, but that doesn't
lessen my respect for her.
> 39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
Making your own luck is all about recognising and taking advantage of
op****tunities when they come along.
