It is well-known that people who have disabilities, such as blindness or
deafness, compensate with more acute senses in other departments; for
example, Lord Nelson who only had one eye, one arm, one testicle and
half a kidney could hear the French Navy as it was preparing to leave
Calais, run faster than a cheetah, seduce women with his extensive
knowledge of cartography and filter impurities from liquids he ingested
by using his teeth in a similar way to a whale's baleen plates.
You too can train yourself to be less reliant on your normal senses and
become superhuman by living in a sensory deprivation tank (note: do not
confuse this with a sensory depravation tank, which can have the
opposite effect and make you go blind).
If you cannot afford such a tank, you can still get some benefit by not
using your senses when they are not required. For example, on long,
boring motorway journeys, close your eyes, or when engaged in
conversation with your spouse, do not listen (you can use the time freed
using these techniques to think about im****tant things, such as s****t or
interior design).
Alcohol and recreational drugs may help if you are experiencing
difficulty in achieving sensory deprivation in day-to-day life.
