There's something you said that I agreed with at the time, but has been
bothering me. You were bemoaning that there are no icons left in the
world that you would miss when they died. I thought it couldn't be true,
but I was stumped if I could think of any.
Well, I've thought of a few.
In chronological order (In my head at least. Well, we have to have some
kind of order in the world, even if it's a queue for the bus) - Eric
Sykes, Barry Crier (yes, Barry Crier - look who he's written for), David
Attenborough, Denholm Elliott, Germaine Greer (annoying, but
entertaining, and quite possibly right), Graham Garden, Tim
Brooke-Taylor (possibly even Bill Oddie, the hairy, little bird-loving
dwarf), Ade Edmondson, Eddie Izzard (not sure about this one), Chris
Morris and many more who haven't been so ingrained in my long-term
memory that alcohol couldn't destroy the neurons that are associated
with remembering their names.
I know I've missed a few personal favourites, like Bjork, Simon Pegg,
Nick Frost, Sinead O'Connor, Dan Antopolski, Lucy ****ter, Bill Bailey,
my cat, Kevin Eldon, Nelson Mandela (maybe he should have been above...)
but I thought the universals might have played better.
The point is, there's still lots of personalities out there who aren't
boy-bands or famous for cosmetic surgery or people who do TV shows like
living in a student dorm with cameras.
So there, Mr. Doom 'n' Gloom Pessimist, stick that up yer jumper 8)
p.s. Download "Kill the Humans" from

It gets me through the day.
p.p.s. Oh, and Ken Dodd. The showbiz rumours are true. And if for no
other reason than "Ken Dodd's dad's dog's dead".
