Cheap cruelty? Yes, it just gets worse and worse. What struck me was the
lack 
of a real reason why House Harkonen and House Atriedes hated each other.
We 
are supposed to belive because of a little misunderstanding that they two 
houses had a fued that lasted a billion trillion years and made the
Harkonens 
into creeps?
