re-reading the other 5 books in the sequence as well. After all, maybe
you will understand Dune this time...

Re-read, and keep your eyes on the page-numbers. There's a good chance
that someone has been removing pages from your copy for nefarious
purposes. And, with practice over the past few years, you are now a
faster reader.

Check the publisher. If you see the words "Reader's Digest Condensed
Version" anywhere, then you've probably managed to get hold of a
Reader's Digest Condensed Version.
