After reading the 6 prequels, I thought it was appropriate to break my
general rule of never re-reading a book.. After all, maybe I will
understand Dune this time...
The plot was generally the same as I remembered from 20 years ago, but
some details were out of sync with my memory. My paperback says
"exact copy from original Berkeley" version, reset to paperback size.
My questions:
1. the end of the book is significantly different that I remember. I
distinctly remember Jessica being kidnapped and forced to train the na-
Baron H. This does not happen in this version
2. also the chapter "squib" were largely from encyclopedias, religious
books, etc. In this version, it is various sayings by or about "Maud-
dib"
3. finally, the Dune I remember is much thicker and took much more
than 10 hours to read.
Ok, here is the question. Is there two versions, like some of the
King books? Or am I totally confusing Dune with another book set in
the far future?
thanks!
