I seem to remember reading something somewhere (either an interview
with FH or something he wrote about the books) that the name Harkonnen
was chosen for (what he thought was?) its Russian/Slavic sound and
that he was playing off anti-Russian Cold War era sentiments.
Nothing resembling a definite source for the above at the moment, I'm
afraid, so...FWIW.
