When I was younger I visited Egypt. We were in a bus one day on the
southern part of the country, right on the border with Sudan. I know a
little of what FH imagined: the desert was infinite in one direction.
You could see the foreground, rocks and dunes, but the mid- and far-
ground all just blurred together in a wash of dull yellow.
The Sahara is one good example of a desert that appears endless.
