How do you mean that?
As a question of literary effect? Did the authors succeed in breathing
life into the character and making it believable?
Of course not. They haven't the talent, it would seem.
Or are you aiming for a more general, philosophical discussion? Is it
possible to consider an artificial intelligence alive?
Whenever I lose my balance and fall off the fence, I tend to land on
the strong AI side more times than not. It all depends, though, on the
criteria you set for determining whether something is alive.
I think these are im****tant, among others:
1. Complex responses to environmental change to maintain internal
homeostasis.
2. Replication
Add non-immediacy and indeterminacy of response for intelligent life.
Though certainly no brain trust, by the above three criteria at least,
Omnius would qualify as an intelligent lifeform IMO.
