Dragonball dub

by "Brian Christiansen" <brian_christians@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 26, 2006 at 03:25 AM

As has been mentioned here (or someplace), there is quite a bit of anime on

YouTube. There are quite a few AMVs that have clips to whatever show put
to
music, the opening or ending to quite a few shows, some clips that I would

call "fanime"

and even whole episodes. Though I am pretty sure that putting up whole
episodes, whether a fansub, or the commercially produced dub, is probably
a
violation of copyright in some way, that is not what my question is about
(not sure about the music videos, but those might be as well).

There are several episodes of dragonball (the dub by funimation) on there.

Most of the first 7 or so episodes are up, and they are very similar to
what
CN showed a few years ago, however there are also some differences.

First off, I am quite certain that the dub is by funimation because at
least
one of them had the closing credits and it actually said "Funimation
productions," but I don't remember seeing any kind of date on it. Most of

the editing was the same though as what CN showed a few years ago, for
example, when Bulma put her undies (I think?) on the fishhook to catch
Oolong, it was changed to a wad of cash, and Goku still made his joke
about
"a fishfull of dollars." Much of the rest was also very similar.

However, there were some differences that I noted as well. The closing
credits did say somewhere "Funimation Productions," but beside that, were
not at all similar to the ending that was used by CN.

Also when Master Ro**** gave Bulma the dragonball, he asked her if she knew

any older ladies (her grandma, I guess?) that she could fix him up with.
She
said that he was a dirty old man (or something to that effect), but could
he
give her the dragonball anyway, and he did. She didn't show him her
****ididity, he undies, or ever here belly button "like the cute pop stars
on
tv," in fact there was no real explanation of what he got in exchange for
the dragonball.

The voices were also not quite the same. Most notably, in the version
that
CN showed, the "Ox King" sounded like professional wrestler "Macho Man,
Randy Savage" (or at least I think he did), but in this version did not.

Anyway, after all that blather my question is where are these episodes
from.
Did Funimation try dubbing the series once before and it tanked in the
ratings so they only did the first 7 or so episodes? Did Funimation dub
the
episodes, let CN review them and CN told them that they wanted some
changes,
such as making the closing credits more like the closing credits in the
Japanese version, making Ro**** into more of a dirty old man (since that
was
already known from DBZ, I think), instead of just implying it a little bit

etc. Or some other reason.

I tried looking on a few dragonball sites, but none of them said any thing

about this.
