One of the early DOC's from 1933, and a classic.....
Striking by what isn't there. No Hidalgo Trading
Company warehouse; just a boathouse on the Hudson. Nobody speaks
Mayan. No pets. No mercy bullets. This is really the first one with
the sleepy-bye gas.
Everybody does their part. All five aides get feature bits to show
off their skills, though Renny less than any (but more page time).
The bad guys end up dead by their own actions.
What struck me was how much of this got wrapped up into the DOC SAVAGE
movie. Renny fetching the autogyro. DOC being away at the Fortress
of Solitude. The packing and carrying of equipment cases. DOC
dispatching a poison s**** with his knife.
The beginning is quite mysterious, but the bad-guy plot logic is not
too bad -- though you think at the end that DOC would make a bigger
deal about taking care of the freed diamond mine slaves.
