The NEW Destroyer......
A worthwhile effort at renewal. It has peeled off the extra layers of
characters, relatives, hangers-on, that was stifling the series ==
Mark Howard is still there, but basically as a writer's crutch, for
exposition. So we have Remo, Chuin, and Smitty.
And a little re-tooling on method. Not 100 percent assassination
anymore, which was an awkward position. Sinanju will now kick your
ass as well as kill you, so misguided henchmen can now be bonked into
submission. Pretty good restraint from guys who can leap 200 feet
into the air and take the wings off a jet fighter with their bare
hands.
Social satire as strong as ever. Good action. Dragged out plot -- if
not for Chuin's whims, this could have been wrapped up much quicker.
Good reading value, though. I had quit the series a while back (at
the giant squid attack), but I'll be looking for the next one in April
THE COVER: ugly as anything. The sword of Sinanju is there, without
any explanation in the text - is it going to be the trademark?. Remo
is ugly as anything, without creekbones. Chuin looks like an old joel
