Well, in TGS she starts to turn around, now that she has Angela around.
And
Valmont doesn't seem that regretful of anything except getting caught.

He's also funny. ;)

Hmm. That's a good point. OTOH, he does have (by proxy) armies of Shadow
Ninjas who have no compunctions about playing rough. And the "dark chi"
energy seems to have an inherently destructive/evil effect (see Goth
Jade).

Well, both sets of heroes are pretty iconic.
Gargoyles has the brooding tough guy (Goliath), the seasoned but
out-of-touch veteran (Hudson), the loveable goofball (Broadway), the
angsty
bad boy (Brooklyn), the whiz kid (Lexington), the token tough girl
(Elisa),
and the dog (Bronx).
JCA has the hero (Jackie), the kooky old wizard (Uncle), the spunky kid
(Jade & Paco), the tough guy (Capt. Black), the loveable goofball (Tohru &
El Toro), the tough/bad girl (Viper), and the dog (Scruffy).

Yeah, but literary analysis is fun.
I'm thinking up some scenario where the heroes and gargoyles cross paths,
and Jackie or Tohru misidentifies the gargs as oni, and Uncle smacks them
one. "Ai-yah! These not oni! These gargoyles! ANYONE can tell the
difference!"

Hmm. Maybe, but I wouldn't expect Gargoyles to go that power-mad. OTOH,
see
my earlier observations about dark chi.
