I see a HUGE reason: Gargoyles was never really THAT popular with the
kids. It was a strong performer in the 2-11 bracket, but it was never
as popular with the grade schoolers as Aladdin and Timon & Pumbaa were
at the time. And Power Rangers constantly killed it in the weekday
afternoon ratings.
He-Man, TMNT, and Transformers were all #1 hit shows in their prime.
He-Man pretty much created the syndicated marketplace. Transformers
was part of a power-hitting lineup of Sunbow sluggers, with TF, G.I.
Joe, and Jem sometimes taking the Top 3 spots in the ratings. TMNT
was as hot from 1988 (I believe) to 1992 as Pokemon was from
1998-2002.
Lord of the Rings's DVD trilogy release, along with the continued
popularity of Harry Potter, and a sustained fanbase, ensures a market
for these Gargoyles DVDs. A new series? Only of the DVDs sell
through the roof. Even then, I tend to elieve direct-to-video's the
only likely scenario in the near future. A new Gargoyles series (with
its familar Occidental cinematic stylings) probably won't reel in much
of an audience in this day of hyper-stylized anime nonsense. Doing an
"Adult Swim"-quality series with anime styling might work, though.

It'd be nice.

The "low" numbers couldn't have helped. Hell, I know that I didn't
plan to take leave for a solo trip to Montreal when I have the family
urging me to make another guilt trip to Texas for a grad school
graduation :)
Don't tell people to leave the country for a convention. That ain't
right.
