Originally, I did't want to say much about the movie as not to spoil
things
for those who read this group and may not have seen it yet.
I felt the essence of the novel was there for a 2 hour film, but the
characters
were not. Matthew McConaughey was acceptable as Dirk Pitt although I still
feel Hugh Jackman might have been the better choice. I agree with the
comments about Steve Zahn as Giordino. William H. Macy was good as
Sandecker, but not gruff enough. Rudy Gunn was terrible. I felt that for
the sake of the movie, they combined Gunn and Hyram Yeager from the
books. Penelope Cruz I felt did bring Eva Rojas to life succesfully. Kazim
reminded more Haitian drug lord from a Steven Seagall movie. The guy
from the Matrix movies playing Massarde did an OK job after they turned
that character into such a minor role.
I hated the change from Air Force officers to Navy seals.
I wanted to reread the book before the movie came out but never got the
chance.
This may have been a good thing. Doing so after seeing the movie is
probably
the
best way to analyze, or over analyze, the changes that were made.
If a sequel is made, I hope Dr. Cussler's law suits are settled acceptably
and Inca Gold is a much better adaptation.
