On being told to stop shouting at me and harrassing me, the "leader"
exclaimed "Well she's a witch!" To which the policeman replied with
something like " Yes and we stopped burning them years ago. You're the
ones
making a noise and disturbing the peace and I saw throw a punch at
someone."

I'm pretty certain that's what they thought. They certainly saw nothing
wrong in harrassing me, even though I'd been polite and reasonable with
them.

The problem would seem to be that with christian standards, they think
they
should apply them to everyone else, but they can ignore them as they see
fit.

This is an excellent point. I consider myself to be quite a spiritual
person, in other words I have another dimension to my cor****eal existence,
and what that is I don't really know, but I choose to celebrate it in a
way
that does not contradict my scientific upbringing, and neither do I wish
it
to be the whole of my life, it is a part of me.

I don't believe all the "Hocus Pocus" that some people see or practise,
and
neither do I try to convert people. On the whole I just want to be allowed
to follow my beliefs and allow others to follow theirs. But it seems with
some people, the more strident in any religious group, that they believe
they must enforce their own brand of spirituality upon others, and that it
will be a panacea for all of humankinds ills. I find that to be totally
abusive, and it seems to me that those people are always the ones that are
totally intolerant of anyone else's views or lifestyle.

I also do firmly believe that this level of so called "faith" is in some
way
masking a deficiency of character, very often extremely low self esteem.
