honor U.S. servicemen and women stationed around the world with a joyous
and
festive musical concert from Washington, D.C.

Broadcast premiere: Tuesday, December 23, 2003 on PBS stations nationwide.

The concert was taped before a live audience including servicemen and
women and
their families at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on
December
11.

This one-hour gala concert features performances by renowned soprano
Harolyn
Blackwell, the Children’s Chorus of Washington, entertainer Jason Graae,
pop and
jazz singer Cyndi Lauper, country music star Kathy Mattea, tenor J. Mark
McVey,
the U.S. Army Brass Quintet and the U.S. Army Soldiers Chorus, and Kevin
Glavin
as Santa Claus.

The television broadcast includes holiday wishes from military families to
their
loved ones overseas. American Forces Network is to feed the show via
closed
circuit to U.S. military bases in 176 countries around the world, reaching
800,000 American servicemen and women. The military broadcast is scheduled
for
Christmas Day at 8:30 p.m.

Cyndi Lauper's unique style influenced girls' fashion for years after the
success of her first solo album, She's So Unusual, in 1983. Following her
debut,
Lauper earned a Grammy Award for "Best New Artist" and two American Music
Awards. Her music videos brought her pop culture stardom and MTV's "Best
Female
Video Artist" award. Lauper has received two Grammy nominations. She made
her
acting debut in the movie Vibes in 1988. In 1994, her guest appearance on
the TV
sitcom Mad About You earned her an Emmy nomination and, in 1995, she won
an Emmy
Award for the guest role. Lauper also appeared in the films Life with
Mikey and
Off and Running. In 1999, she appeared in The Opportunists, her first
dramatic
role. She has toured with superstars Tina Turner and Cher. In 1998, she
released
her first holiday album, Merry Christmas…Have a Nice Life.
