Katy, read it. It's a bit strange at first due to the many references to
the
so called 'Guilded Era' - however it's nothing you haven't heard CE refer
to
in GAL, etc. (Lot's of "Yes me lady" and other 1880's English.) To be
honest, the first several pages had me worried I might not like this book
as
I read very little fiction. But, once I decided to envision Chris Elliot
*telling* the tale - it suddenly took on a different light altogether.
Do yourself a favor, if you simply pretend Chris is reading this out loud,
say, on Letterman or a scene from GAL - it becomes impossible to not to
get
caught up in the story. Also, and I don't wish to create a 'spoiler', but
he
has modern flash-forwards which are worth their weight in "Mr. Underwater
Watches".
Like so many have said about CE - if you like him, you'll like the book
regardless of the story, setting or outcome. I'll warn you, there are a
few
sections that might make one laugh out loud. His take on Teddy Roosevelt
has
to be read to be believed.
Oh, BTW - does anyone have any full transcripts of CE's 'Nite Lites'? My
computer is too slow to DL any video clips - and I could shoot myself for
not taping them when aired - but I'd sure like to read the text if it's
available somewhere.
Chris: "Dave? Did you just say Yipee"?
