He didn't ask.  I volunteered.  I don't think that it was obvious that
I was likely to hand out money like that.  His plan was to save on the
gasoline bill by skipping work.

He's not the most practical person, but that was more than four months
before I quit that job and more than a year ago now.  He never asked
to borrow more.
