"Defeatist" is a rather strong word to use to describe a lack of 
knowledge of 20th century technology.

1) Virtually all of my neighbors (and there are only 15) have cable TV 
and thus have no need nor desire for a rooftop antenna.

2) The management will not give me permission to put a satellite dish on 
the building, so there's no point in asking about a rooftop antenna.
