I dunno. You could say somewhat the same thing about stretches of
"Sometimes A Great Notion", which I consider one of the 100 great
novels. Of course, Kesey did such a great job with those characters that
by the time you got to that point, you could recognize who was
thinking/saying something purely by the content and tone, with no other
identification. In fact, to me that was one of the memorable features of
the book.  

The movie was a disappointment, though.
