We had some robins do something similar a few weeks ago.  They woke 
me up very early several times by attacking the windows on two 
sides of the house.  They'd thump up against the window several 
times, then go off to catch their breath, and then come back and do 
it again.  For hours.  Stupid ***** bastards.
