Joe Pep must have been injured in 1972 to begin the season.  His first
at bat that year was on July 1, 1972, just the game before arty's
game.   Pepitone actually slugged .482 the year before, in 1971, which
was the highest of his career and a pretty solid percentage (Santo's
was .487 that year, with No. 3 hitter  Billy Williams leading the team
at .606.  But he faded badly during the rest of 1972, and retired the
next year.

Durocher was past his prime in 1969, that's for sure.
