If this is the opening for newsreader wars, I'd like to throw a dog 
into the fight.

I used FreeAgent for several years. I have tried Xnews. But I am 
currently using MesNews and loving it. It has some quirks (language 
translation errors, for example), but overall seems solid. It works 
with multiple srvers, shows underlines, italics, bold, etc. It is 
freeware (or donation ware to be technical). It has x-faces (and color 
faces, too).

I'm not trying to talk anyone into switching, but if you are changing 
newsreaders I think MesNews is worth a look.
