On a less-happy note, this morning on my way to my car, I passed a
grey-ish bird with a darker head, about sparrow size, sitting hunched
down in one of the parking spots (parallel parking on a residential
street).  Only after I reminded him that was a bad place to sit did I
notice the feathers and blood on the other side of the centerline,
where his partner had been.
