One of the reviews said that he wrote a lot about learning about birds
from his father.  That might explain the Older Chap tone.

To tie into a long-gone thread, while I was looking for bird books I
came across the "Defending the Cave Woman" book, the one with the
story about the gentleman who had a small stroke and lost the ability
to read left to right.  I'll read the book again and see if I can
answer some of the questions that came up in the thread.
