I used to ****ft my pickup clutchlessly in highway driving.  The truck
eventually needed a new differential and I sold it at a junker price.
The gears survived the whole time.  Thought the ****fter came off in my
hand once.  I shoved the whole shaft back down where it had pulled out
and it snapped back where it should be.  For the next three years, I
pressed down while ****fting and it never came out again.

I've had tranny troubles in three other cars over the years, but those
are in cars where I always use the clutch.
