I had a wonderful mother-in-law and I really miss her.  She was an
immaculate housekeeper, a great cook, and a gracious and lovely
person.  She never said a word in criticism to me, but I flogged
myself and my cleaning lady into getting my house spotless before she
came to visit.  That was my standard, not hers.

I truly don't think she would have cared if my house was its usual
cluttered self.  It's never dirty, just cluttered, but I tried hard to
de-clutter it because I assumed she'd be uncomfortable with it.  My
cleaning lady used to laugh at me, because she knew my mother-in-law
and though I was being silly to worry so much.
