It's very unlikely that the visitor was legitimate, at least considering
a third item that was found on the ground, which was a soda can bottom
that had burn marks on it. They were all together. But still you're
probably right that a) if it's legitimate, then there's no reason
calling or b) if it's not, they probably won't appreciate the call.

Though I was thinking more of that the pills were actually stolen from
this person, the real recipient of the script. Perhaps they don't even
know about it. I don't know how common that is, though. It might be
more common to go to a doctor and one way or another get the
prescription.

Actually, the renter brings other problems, and we still have the drug
use separately. It just happens that now that we've been on the lookout,
he came up as collateral "damage".
