Why not call the doctor? S/he may have a good idea of whether the 
patient was robbed, or lied to get the scrip, and/or is into 
prescription drug partying, and/or trafficking. You don't compromise the 
patient's privacy any more than it already is, and perhaps you'll be 
giving the doctor im****tant information.

Covers most cases, except for the one where the doc is selling scrips. 
Even then, it might give him/her a scare.
