Bill Clinton is a red herring, he would not have been in office. But
remember he did bomb Iraq in 1998 and don't forget the military action
in Bosnia/Serbia. As far as Gore goes, I think he would have
authorized action in Afghanistan, but not Iraq (certainly not
pre-emptive action).

Yes, there are always attacks, but attacks are one thing. The US
political media loves trivial non-stories, regardless of the target.
These stories tend to do more damage then attacks.

That is too far back for me, I don't remember anything about those
debates. I do remember that everyone thought P***** was crazy even
though just about everything he predicted has come true (go figure).

The problem here, again, is the US media. In 2000, they assigned
roles to the candidates. Bush was the regular guy you would like to
have a beer with (hence the fascination with the DUI, plus it is OK
for regular guys to make gaffs). Gore was the serial exaggerator. My
guess is that they were still pissed off about Clinton's lying and
decided to make Gore pay for it. The problem with Gore's assigned
role is that is was not true, in that the stories they told were not
true. For instance, the biggest lie of all was "Invented The
Internet". Gore never said it. Yet it was repeated over, and over,
and over again. You know what happens when a lie is repeated over and
over, it becomes true. But it NEVER happened. Same with the others
(Love Story, Love Canal, et al)
