It starts when respectable people are no longer out and about, and thus
everyone left skulking about is presumed to be up to something.  So around
10 pm or so, but maybe earlier depending on local customs, but later
around
harvest time.  Put out the lamp, that whale oil doesn't grow on trees, you
know.
